Softball Sweeps Colby In KJCCC Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dodge City softball opened KJCCC play in dramatic fashion with a sweep at home over Colby winning 10-7 in comeback fashion and 8-3 in game two. 

The Conquistadors with the wins move to 4-9 on the season and start 2-0 in KJCCC play, while also snapping an eight-game losing streak to the Colby Trojans. 

It's a quick turnaround for the Conqs as they take on rival Garden City on Friday, February 28th in a KJCCC doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.

Game 1 – Won 10-7 vs Colby
The Conqs started the day rough as Colby would plate a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Conqs would limit the damage to just two. Trojans would send eight to the plate in the second scoring four runs and then added one more in the third to lead 7-0. Conqs would break through in the bottom of the fifth as Kloe Nelson belted a solo home run. In the bottom of the sixth, the Conqs would bat around capitalizing on four walks with two hits to score four runs with Nelson highlighting the frame with a two-RBI by Nelson. Down to the final three outs of the game, the Conqs would work two on and Jordyn Boxberger would bring in two runs on a single to tie the game with two outs. After a single by Campbell Anderson, the Conqs would end the game in the next at-bat as Riley Moore blasted a three-run home run to lift the Conqs to a 10-7 win. 

Shyann Clark earned the win inside the circle as she tossed the final three innings holding Colby off the board giving up just one hit and striking out one. 

Nelson led the offense going 2-3 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored, while Boxberger was 1-1 with two RBI and a run scored. Moore finished 1-3 with four RBI, a walk, and a run scored. 

Game 2 – Won 8-3 vs Colby 
Riding a wave of momentum from game one the Conqs jumped up early with four hits in the second inning scoring three with a two-RBI single by Whitley Cash. Colby answered back in the third with a pair of home runs and then tied it with a run in the fourth making it 3-3. In the fifth, the lead swung back to the Conqs taking advantage of a few walks to score two, and then tacked on three more in the sixth with an RBI single and two-RBI single by Rylie Miller and Moore, respectively. The Conqs would shut down Colby with a one, two, three seventh inning to earn an 8-3 victory. 

Clark snagged the win in game two tossing seven strong innings giving up just three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three. 

Offensively the Conqs had 11 hits led by Cash who was 3-3 with two RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Moore went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Karen Galaviz went 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
