The Dodge City track and field punched more tickets to indoor nationals with performances at the Region 6 Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Overall, the Conquistador women finished eighth as a team in the region and fourth in the KJCCC West, while the men finished 13th overall and five in the KJCCC West.
The women's side of competition led the Conq performances at the meet as the distance medley relay team,
Bianca Gleim,
Sarai Chavez, and
Olivia Leatherman all qualified for nationals.
The quartet of Chavez, Gleim,
Ivy Washington, and
Ava Washington posted a time of 12:44.84 to place second in the distance medley relay and qualify for nationals. Gleim also qualified in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.35 breaking her school record in the event. Chavez posted a time of 3:07.39 in the 1000-meter run to place fourth in the event and qualify for nationals.
Leatherman in the prelims would post a time of 8.92 in the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for nationals and would go on to finish eighth in the event. She also broke the school record in the event.
Albert House snatched another ticket to nationals as he had a time of 8.17 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish fifth in the event.
Kasey Kopetic finished sixth in the same event with a time of 8.20.
Several other Conqs would score on the day with Top eight finishes.
Ivy Washington took fourth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:55.50, while
Ava Washington ran a time of 2:26.63 in the 800-meter run to place eighth. Ava along with
Gracee May,
Teressa Martinez, and Chavez grabbed second place in the 4x800-meter relay behind a time of 10:04.92.
Daniela Cerda had a strong meet placing sixth in the 5000-meter run (19:48.53) and eighth in the 1000-meter run (3:23.70).
While the women's 4x400-meter relay team of May, Gleim, Leatherman, and
Alexis Bradshaw posted a time of 4:11.29 to place sixth.
On the men's side of the competition, the quartet of
Juan Badillo,
Josue Vega,
Dash Garton, and
Alex Teffu posted a time of 8:24.91 in the 4x800-meter relay to finish fifth. Vega also finished seventh in the 5000-meter run (15:36.55), while Teffu placed seventh in the 1-mile run (4:23.69).
In the field events,
Deven Bolton tied for seventh place in the high jump with a leap of 1.94 meters (6'04.50").
The Conqs now gear up for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships which will take place in Lubbock, Texas on March 7th-8th.
