For the second straight year, the Dodge City men's golf opened the year and the fall season by winning the Southwestern Christian Invitational in Bethany, Oklahoma.
The Conquistadors would continually get better as a team throughout the tournament starting with a 282 (+2) team score in the first round and then posting rounds of 279 (-1) and 278 (-2) in the second and third rounds. The Conqs would total 839 for the tournament and claim the tournament title for the second straight year.
Four Top 10 individual finishes paced the Conqs in the first tournament of the year led by a pair of second-place performances.
Luke Shelton and
Joao Iglesias each carded a 204 (-6) for the tournament to tie for second place, while
Rhys Nicholas shot a 205 (-5) to place fourth and
Winston Knobloch finished with a 212 to place eighth.
Shelton posted rounds of 69, 66, and 69 for the tournament, while Iglesias tallied rounds of 69, 69, and 66. Nicholas was under 70 each round also for the Conqs with rounds of 68, 69, and 68. Knobloch went 70, 70, and 72 for the tournament.
Also in action were
Jack McKie,
Colby Hays, and
Blake Strong who finished with scores of 222, 223, and 224 overall.
A former Conq, Kitsakon Jairak would win the tournament competing for Central Baptist College.
The Conqs are back in action on Monday and Tuesday, September 16th-17th at the Sam Proal Insurance Invitational hosted by CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colorado at Walking Stick Golf Course.
