Box Score 2 Dodge City baseball clinched a first-round playoff series at home for the first time since 2017 as they earned a doubleheader sweep over Colby on the road claiming 13-5 and 20-6 victories.
The pair of wins move the Conquistadors to 35-19 on the season and 19-11 in KJCCC action. The 19 KJCCC wins are the most under Head Coach, Brett Doe and the most since the 2017 season.
The Conqs will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, May 4th at home with a doubleheader against Colby starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Won 13-5 at Colby
The Conqs wasted no time putting on an offensive show on the day as they would score in the first inning of the day plating three runs in the first on a two RBI double by Max Towchik and an RBI groundout by Nick Gray to lead 3-0. The lead grew in the second behind an RBI single by Cooper Schneider and then Colby tightened things up with two runs in the bottom of the third making it 3-2. In the top of the fourth the offense continued to come for the Conqs and the home run parade for the day would start for the Conqs as Andrew Detlefsen and Jordan Rodriguez belted back-to-back solo home runs to open the inning. Juan Rivera would join the party in the third blasting a solo home run also in the third inning. In the top of the fifth Towchik hit a solo home run to open the inning and Rodriguez then belted his second home run of the contest. Colby would get a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings but after five the Conqs were in front 9-4. Leading 9-5 entering the seventh the Conqs would cap the contest with four runs in the top of the seventh scoring four runs to lead to a 13-5 victory.
A 14-hit attack for the Conqs saw five Conqs record a multi-hit game. Rivera was 4-5 with four runs scored, three RBI, a home run, a double, and two stolen bases. Schneider added a 3-4 game with three RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Towchik was 2-4 with three RBI, a home run, a double, and a run scored, while Rodriguez was 2-3 with three runs scored, two RBI, and two home runs.
On the mound, Garret Carter earned the win tossing six strong innings giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks, while striking out nine. Nathan Harmon tossed the final inning of the matchup.
Game 2 – Won 20-6 at Colby (7 innings)
The offense continued to pour out in the second game of the day as the Conqs would score the most runs in a single inning under Coach Doe tallying 11 runs in the first inning. The scoring would start with a grand slam by Towchik, while Joseph Dominguez recorded a two-run double also in the inning to highlight the frame. The Conqs added two more runs in the second and five more in the third including a Dominguez two-run home run in the third. Leading 18-4 after three innings both teams would get a pair of runs in the fifth and the Conqs' sizeable lead would lead to a 20-6 run-rule win in seven innings.
Conqs pounded out 13 hits in game two led by Dominguez who was 4-5 with six RBI, two home runs, a double, and four runs scored. Towchik added a 2-4 game with five RBI, a home run, a stolen base, and three runs scored, while Rivera was 2-5 with a run scored, two RBI, and a stolen base.
Bryce Chambers picked up the win tossing four innings as the starter, while Maxx Davidson, Trenton Chenard, and Torrin Cavanaugh each tossed an inning to cap the game.
