Softball Takes Two Over Pratt Including a Walk-off Win

Dodge City softball made it four in a row behind a doubleheader sweep of Pratt at home earning an 8-7 come-from-behind walk-off win in game one and then taking game two 14-6 in six innings. 

The victories move the Conquistadors to 9-23 on the season and 9-13 in KJCCC action, while marking 27 wins in the last 28 meetings against Pratt. 

Up next the Conqs travel to Hutchinson for a KJCCC doubleheader slated for a 3:00 pm start. 

Game 1 – Won 8-7 vs Pratt
The Conqs opened the day strong stringing three hits together in the bottom of the first tallying two runs with an RBI triple by Josie Oakley and an RBI double by Rylie Miller. Pratt got on the board in the top of the second with a solo home run and then plated two more runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Beavers of Pratt extended their lead in the fifth scoring four to own a 7-2 advantage. In the bottom of the fifth, the Conqs answered sending eight to the plate and scoring four to draw within one run at 7-6. An infield RBI single by Reneau Ratzlaff and two RBI doubles by Oakley highlighted the four-run fifth for the Conqs. Down to the final three outs, the Conqs would look to complete the comeback in the bottom of the seventh. A one-out triple by Camyrn Lenz put the tying run 60 feet away but a ground ball would lead to Lenz being thrown out at home and two-outs. Oakley who reached on fielder's choice would steal second and take third on a throwing error to put the tying run on third again for the Conqs and then Miller delivered an RBI double to tie the game at 7-7. Ally Hamblin would come up next and deliver her only hit of the game pushing a single into right field and bringing in Miller for the Conqs to snag the 8-7 win. 

Miller paced the Conqs offense with a 3-4 game with three RBI, two doubles, and a run scored. Lenz added a 2-4 game with a triple and run scored, while Oakley was 2-4 with three runs scored, three RBI, a triple, and a double.

Oakley earned the win in the circle tossing two scoreless innings of relief after Toni Gabaldon tossed five innings as the starter. 

Game 2 – Won 14-6 vs Pratt (6 innings)
The second game of the day would see Pratt grab the early lead behind with a run in the first and then add another in the third to lead 2-0 before the Conqs would tally a run off a leadoff triple by Sayge Salmans to make it 2-1 as Salmans scored on a wild pitch. Pratt would get another run in the top of the fourth but the Conqs had another answer and it was big scoring four in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. An RBI triple by Abigail Zabel would highlight the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth Pratt would double their output scoring three runs to regain the lead at 6-5 but that would be the rest of the scoring for Pratt while the Conqs would find nine more runs. In the bottom of the fifth, the Conqs tallied three with an RBI double from Miller and a two-RBI single by Salmans. The Conqs would end the game in the bottom of the sixth with six runs as an RBI triple by Oakley, an RBI single by Miller, and a two-RBI single by Salmans helped the Conqs tally the runs. The Conqs capped the game with a 14-6 win in six innings. 

Miller and Salmans led the Conqs offense attack each going 4-4 at the plate. For Miller, it was 4-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and two doubles, while Salmans was 4-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, and a triple. Abigail Taylor added a 2-3 game with an RBI, a run scored, and a walk, while Zabel was 2-2 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI. Lenz added a 2-4 game with a run scored. 

Oakley went the distance in the circle tossing six innings to earn the win and recording six strikeouts.
