Baseball Takes Two From Barton to Win First Series Over Cougars Since 2016

For the first time since 2016, the Dodge City baseball team has won a series against Barton as the Conquistadors topped the two-time defending KJCCC West champs in a pair of run-rule 12-2 games in Dodge City. 

The Conqs with the wins improved to 26-12 on the season and 11-5 in KJCCC action. The Conqs have won or split all four KJCCC series in the season. 

Up next the Conqs continue KJCCC play and take on Hutchinson who sits atop the KJCCC West as the series will start in Dodge City on Thursday, April 11th, and then transition to Hutchinson on Saturday, April 13th. 

Game 1 – Won 12-2 vs Bration (5 innings)
It was early and often offense for the Conqs in the first game of the day in Dodge City as the Conqs would out-hit Barton 12-4 in the contest on the way to a run-rule win. In the bottom of the first the Conqs would take the lead scoring three runs highlighted by a two-RBI double by Max Towchik. In the second a Juan Rivera RBI double added to the Conqs lead making it 3-0 and then Barton would get a pair of runs in the top of the third to make it 3-2. In the bottom of the third the Conqs continued to score plating three runs and then adding one more in the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Conqs capped the game via run-rule by scoring four runs including RBI singles by Nathan Harmon and Towchik, along with a Nick Gray two-run homer and the Conqs earned the 12-2 win. 

Four multi-hit games led the Conqs' 12-hit attack in the contest with a 4-4 game from Towchik pacing the way. Towchik was 4-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, a triple, and a double, while Gray was 2-2 with two runs scored, three RBI, a home run, and a double. Rivera posted a 2-3 game with three runs scored, an RBI, and two doubles, while Harmon added a 2-3 game with an RBI and a run scored. 

On the mound, Brian Hallum earned the win tossing four innings giving up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three. Jason Miller tossed a scoreless fifth inning for the Conqs. 

Game 2 – Won 12-2 vs Barton (8 innings) 
The series finale would be tight early as the Conqs who plated a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Jordan Rodriguez to lead 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth, the Conqs broke it open with four runs as Gray belted a two-run homer to highlight the inning. Carter Olson would lead off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to make it 6-0. Barton broke through with a run in the top of the sixth but the Conqs answered in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runs. After a run by Barton in the top of the eighth the Conqs would have their third four-run inning of the day with an RBI double by Hallum and a two-run home run by Cooper Schneider leading the way in the inning for the Conqs to cap the game at 12-2 in eight innings. 

Another 12-hit output for the Conqs which was led by a pair of three-hit games from Gray and Rodriguez. Gray posted a 3-3 game with three RBI, a home run, a run scored, and a walk, while Rodriguez was 3-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Olson enjoyed a 2-3 game with two runs scored, a home run, and two RBI. 

On the mound, Michael DeBattista was strong throwing six innings giving up just one run on four hits and no walks, while striking out five to earn the win. Michael Lopez tossed the final two innings giving up just one run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
