Former Conquistador Men's Basketball Player, Marlow Gilmore Jr to Compete in College Slam Dunk Contest on ESPN

Former Dodge City men's basketball player Marlow Gilmore Jr. who competed for the Conquistadors in the Co-VID shortened 2020-21 season is set to compete on a national stage on Thursday, April 4th as he will participate in the King's Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship at the 35th-annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & Three-Point Championships. 

Gilmore Jr. will compete against seven other competitors in the Slam Dunk contest to help kick off the NCAA Division I Final Four weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. The competition will be televised on ESPN at 8:00 pm and will be held at Grand Canyon University's arena. 

The former Conq just wrapped up his college playing career this past season playing for Francis Marion University an NCAA DII school in his home state of South Carolina. He averaged 13.1 points and six rebounds per game this past season for the Patriots, while leading the Conference Carolinas in field goal percentage shooting 65.9% and ranked sixth in blocked shots with 29. Francis Marion finished 15-13 on the season and 12-6 in the conference for fourth place. 

Gilmore spent one season with the Conqs where he helped the team post a 14-9 record during the Co-VID shortened 2020-21 season. He averaged 9.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and shot 72.9% from the field for the Conqs. He would transfer to Western Carolina University playing two seasons for the Catamounts before capping his collegiate playing career with a fifth-year season with Francis Marion University this past year. 

The former Conq looks to put on a show as part of the annual Slam Dunk contest which will air on ESPN at 8:00 pm.
