Softball Caps Regular Season With Pair of Losses to Colby

Dodge City softball wrapped up the regular season with a road trip to Colby and fell in a doubleheader to the Trojans, dropping game one 6-5 and game two 11-1 in five innings. 

The losses send the Conquistadors to 11-31 on the season and 11-21 in KJCCC action as the Conqs finish sixth in the KJCCC Division I standings. 

The Conqs now turn their attention to the Region 6 Tournament which will take place Friday, May 3rd through Monday, May 6th in Dodge City at Legends Park. The Conqs will be the sixth seed and play Barton in the first round of the double-elimination tournament starting on Friday. 

Game 1 – Lost 6-5 at Colby 
The day would open with the Conqs seeing their opposition in Colby scoring first as the Trojans plated a run in the bottom of the first. The Conqs would answer in a big way in the top of the third scoring four in the inning. In the bottom of the fourth the Conqs worked the bases loaded to open the frame and a bases-loaded walk by Emily Yelton evened the game at 1-1. The lead went to the Conqs in the next at-bat with a two-RBI single by Ally Hamblin and then an RBI single by Abigail Zabel made it 4-1. Colby would cut into the Conqs lead with a run in the fourth and then tie the game at 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, an RBI double by Josie Oakley gave the Conqs the lead back but Colby countered with two in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-5 entering the seventh inning. The Conqs would get a pair of runners on in the seventh via walks but would be unable to score falling 6-5. 

Oakley led the Conqs offense going 2-3 with a double, runs scored, an RBI, and a walk, while Reneau Ratzlaff was 1-2 with a run scored and two walks. Hamblin added a 1-4 game with two RBI, while Zabel was 1-3 with an RBI and a walk. 

Game 2 – Lost 11-1 at Colby (5 innings)
The Conqs would open the scoring in game two with three straight hits in the first inning including an RBI single by Rylie Miller to put the Conqs in front early. Colby would send eight to the plate in the bottom of the first and tally a pair of runs to grab the lead which they would hold on to and extend. The Trojans scored two more in the third and two more in the fourth before capping the game in the fifth with five more runs to finish the game 11-1. 

In the loss, Camryn Lenz was 1-3 with a run scored, while Miller was 1-2 with an RBI. Hamblin was 1-1 with a walk and Oakley recorded a hit.
