April 11, 2024

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Dodge City baseball opened the series with the top team in the KJCCC West the Hutchinson Blue Dragons and while the Conquistadors nearly ended the Blue Dragons' win streak it was Hutchinson who grabbed wins in both games. The Conqs fell 2-1 in game one and then dropped game two 14-2 in seven innings.

The losses move the Conqs to 26-14 on the season and 11-7 in KJCCC action.

The series transitions to Hutchinson on Saturday, April 13th for a doubleheader slated for a 1:00 pm start time.

Game 1 – Lost 2-1 vs Hutchinson
The series opener would prove to be a pitcher's duel in a low-scoring affair. The Conqs nearly snagged the lead in the bottom of the second after Brian Hallum opened the inning with a double but would be thrown out at home plate to end the second. In the bottom of the fourth the Conqs would open the scoring as Juan Rivera led the inning off with a triple and a miss-played fly ball in the infield resulted in an RBI double for Max Towchik and the Conqs led 1-0 after four innings. Hutchinson who had scoring opportunities over the first four innings would tie the game up in the top of the fifth and then with two outs in the sixth would tally the go-ahead run. The Conqs would be unable to generate offense over the final three innings and fell 2-1.

Garret Carter was strong in the start for the Conqs tossing five innings and giving up an unearned run on five hits, one walk, and three hit batters while striking out eight.

Offensively the Conqs had just three hits as Rivera was 1-3 with a run scored and triple, Towchik was 1-3 with an RBI and double, and Hallum was 1-3 with a double.

Game 2 – Lost 14-2 vs Hutchinson (7 innings)
It was a rough start to game two for the Conqs as Hutchinson recorded three hits, a hit batter, and took advantage of three Conq errors to score five runs to take early control. The Conqs would get on the board in the bottom of the second as Carter Olson blasted a solo home run to lead off the inning, but the Blue Dragons countered with three runs in the top of the third to lead 8-1. In the bottom of the third, The Conqs scored again as Rivera led the inning off with a single and came around scoring on a sac-fly by Hallum. Hutchinson would do the rest of the scoring plating one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh. While the offensive woes continued for the Conqs managing only five more base runners over the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings as the Conqs dropped game two 14-2 in seven innings.
