March 27, 2024

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Dodge City softball traveled to Great Bend to continue KJCCC play and start the second time through Jayhawk conference action.

The Conquistadors would struggle to get things going overall on the day and Barton topped the Conqs 21-2 and 9-0 both in five innings. The losses drop the Conqs to 5-23 on the season and 5-13 in KJCCC action.

After a weekend off the Conqs will be back in action next week as they will travel to Goodland to take on Northwest Kansas Tech in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.

Game 1 – Lost 21-2 at Barton (5 innings)
The start of the day looked strong for the Conqs as Camryn Lenz got on base after being hit by a pitch in the first inning and two batters later Josie Oakley belted a two-run homer to give the Conqs a 2-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived for the Conqs as they would surrender two runs in the bottom of the first to even the game up at 2-2. Barton had an offensive outburst in the bottom of the second as they tallied 10 runs and the Conqs would see Barton continue to add runs to their total with three more in the third and six in the fourth. The Conqs would be unable to score again falling 21-2 in five innings.

In the loss, Ally Hamblin was 2-2 at the plate while Oakley was 1-3 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. Madison Kacer, Lenz, and Rylie Miller each added a hit.

Game 2 – Lost 9-0 at Barton (5 innings)
The offensive prowess continued for Barton in game two as the Conqs saw the Cougars continue to find ways to score. The Conqs would see Barton tally a run in the first, then two in the second, along with three in the third, and three more in the fourth to own a 9-0 lead. The Conqs would struggle to find base runners with just three hits and two walks but would be unable to find a way to get on the board falling 9-0 in five innings.

Sayge Salmans recorded two of the team's three hits in the loss going 2-2, while Miller was 1-3 and both Oakley and Abigail Zabel each drew a walk.
