March 18, 2024

Box Score

Dodge City baseball stepped out of conference play for a quick trip down to Alva, Oklahoma, and took on Northwestern Oklahoma State JV for one contest on Monday and picked up a 13-2 win.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 21-7 on the season and 11-3 on the road this season.

The Conqs wasted no time getting on the board early as Tate Blasi opened the game with a triple which was followed by a home run from Andrew Detlefsen to make the contest 2-0. In the bottom of the first NWOSU would use three walks to work the bases loaded and a Conq error would score two for the Rangers to tie the game up at 2-2. The rest of the scoring would be down by the Conqs as Detlefsen belted his second home run of the day in the top of the third to make it 3-2. In the fifth inning, the Conqs would continue to score as Nathan Harmon belted a three-run home run and then Joseph Dominguez notched a two-RBI single later in the inning as the Conqs scored five in the frame. Leading 8-2 the Conqs put together another five-run inning in the top of the seventh as Dominguez delivered an RBI single, while Cayden Cartmill then had a two-RBI single, followed by an RBI single from Luke O'Neill and an RBI double from Brady Henke leading to a 13-2 advantage. The Conqs would retire NWOSU JV in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

A 15-hit attack helped pace the Conqs to the win with a three-hit performance from Dominguez leading the offense as he was 3-4 with a run scored, and three RBI. Detlefsen finished 2-3 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored, while Cartmill added a 2-2 performance with two RBI, a double, and a run scored. Alex Galyean posted a 2-4 showing with two runs scored, while six other Conqs had a hit in the contest.

On the mound, Caden Norman tossed three innings as the starter giving up two unearned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out four. Jason Miller and Caleb Tucker each tossed a scoreless inning while Connor Olson threw two scoreless innings of relief.

Up next the Conqs cross over in the KJCCC taking on #10 Johnson County from the KJCCC East for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 21st in Emporia at Emporia State University.
