Softball Battles Colby In KJCCC Action

Conference play continued for Dodge City softball as they hosted Colby for a doubleheader and the Conquistadors would battle the Trojans tough but just be unable to work past them falling 4-2 and 8-0. 

The losses send the Conqs to 3-19 on the season and 3-9 in KJCCC action. 

The Conqs continue the season on Wednesday, March 20th at home as they host Seward County for a KJCCC doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm. 

Game 1 – Lost 4-2 vs Colby 
The Conqs would threaten to take the early lead producing base runners in the first three innings including working the bases loaded in the second but would be unable to break through while shutting Colby down one-two-three each of those innings. In the fourth Colby would put together three hits and with two Conq errors would score three runs. The Conqs would continue to generate base runners and once again with the bases loaded Reneau Ratzlaff would deliver a two-out two RBI single to draw the Conqs to within one at 3-2. In the top of the seventh Colby would add an insurance run to lead 4-2. The bottom of the seventh saw the Conqs get the leadoff runner on via a hit by pitch bringing the tying run to the plate but the Conqs would be unable to score falling 4-2. 

Conqs five hits were spread out as Ratzlaff, Abigail Taylor, Camryn Lenz, Ally Hamblin, and Sayge Salmans each recorded a hit. Ratzlaff was 1-2 with two RBI and two walks to lead the Conqs offense. Toni Gabaldon was great in the circle tossing all seven innings giving up four runs on five hits and no walks, while striking out three. 

Game 2 – Lost 8-0 vs Colby (5 innings)
The second game of the day saw early runs as Colby put together a four-run first inning to establish the lead and would then double up that output with a four-run fourth. The Conqs would have opportunities throughout the contest stranding six in the game including getting a pair of hits in the second and fifth innings. 

Gabaldon paced the Conqs at the plate going 2-2, while Taylor, Josie Oakley, Lenz, and Madison Kacer each recorded a hit. Lenz tossed four innings and Oakley threw the final inning recording three straight outs against Colby.
