Baseball Splits On Road Against Seward County

Dodge City baseball opened their second KJCCC series of the season as they traveled to Liberal to take on Seward County who was playing their first conference games of the year and the Conquistadors played to a doubleheader split. 

The Conqs would drop game one 4-0 but got the offense moving in the second game to earn an 8-5 victory for the split. The split moves the Conqs to 19-6 on the season and 5-1 in KJCCC action. 

The series transitions to Dodge City on Saturday, March 16th as the Conqs will host Seward County for a twinbill starting at 1:00 pm. 

Game 1 – Lost 4-0 at Seward County 
The Conqs would fall behind early on the day as Seward County tagged them for three runs in the bottom of the first inning capitalizing on three including a home run, an error, and a walk. Seward County would maintain that 3-0 lead throughout the contest and add another run in the bottom of the fifth to be up 4-0. While the Conqs struggled to generate base runners recording just four hits and only one walk ultimately falling 4-0 in the series opener versus the Saints. 

Max Towchik led the Conqs in the loss as he continued his hot streak at the plate going 3-3 in the loss. Juan Rivera added a 1-3 game as he recorded the Conqs' only other hit in the game. Bryce Chambers tossed a solid five innings in the game but took the loss on the mound. 

Game 2 – Won 8-5 at Seward County 
The early lead was grabbed by the Conqs in game two as they plated four runs in the top of the first inning highlighted by RBI doubles by Tate Blasi and Max Towchik. The lead grew in the top of the fourth as the Conqs scored two more runs as they worked the bases loaded and Brian Hallum brought in two with a single to make it 6-0. Seward County got on the board in the bottom of the fourth matching the Conqs' two runs in the top of the inning and then the Saints made it a two-run game by scoring two more in the bottom of the sixth. Leading 6-4 entering the ninth inning the Conqs would add some insurance as Carter Olson belted a two-run home run and then Nick Gray tossed the final inning where Seward County would get a run but only one and the Conqs earned the 8-5 win. 

Three Conqs had a multi-hit game in the win led by Blasi who was 3-3 with a double, run scored, RBI, walk, and a hit by pitch. Towchik continued his strong stretch making it five straight games with a hit and four of them multi-hit games as he was 2-5 with a double, run scored, RBI, and stolen base. Olson finished 2-5 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI. 

On the mound, Michael DeBattista tossed 3.1 innings of work while four other Conqs saw action out of the bullpen. Josh Nolte tossed 1.2 innings recording three strikeouts and did not give up a base runner, while Nathan Harmon tossed two scoreless innings giving up just one hit.
