Box Score 2 Dodge City baseball team wrapped up their first action at home of the season taking on Northeast Community College and Highland Community College on Sunday and would split the action falling 6-3 to Northeast and winning 18-0 in five innings over Highland.
The split gave the Conquistadors a 3-1 weekend and moved them to 10-4 on the season with just four more games before conference play opens.Â
Another road trip to Texas stands in front of the Conqs to continue the season as they will travel to Gainesville to play North Central Texas College on Friday, March 1st, and then play in Denison on Saturday, March 2nd against Grayson for a doubleheader each day.Â
Game 1 – Lost 6-3 vs Northeast
The Conqs would open the day by getting on the board first working the bases loaded in the first inning and behind four consecutive walks scoring two runs to lead 2-0 vs Northeast after just the first inning. Northeast answered with two runs in the top of the third including a solo home run and then belted another solo home run in the fourth to take a 3-2 advantage. The lead grew in the sixth for Northeast as they scored another run but the Conqs countered with one also in the bottom of the sixth capitalizing on a leadoff single by Nick Gray in the inning. In the top of the seventh Northeast added some insurance runs scoring two more and despite a triple by Max Towchik the Conqs would be unable to score in the seventh falling 6-3.Â
In the loss, the Conqs had just four hits with Juan Rivera, Gray, Towchik, and Andrew Detlefsen each recording a hit. Garret Carter tossed two innings as the starter while Michael Lopez accounted for four innings giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven.Â
Game 2 – Won 18-0 vs Highland
It was early offense again for the Conqs in the final game of the weekend as they had 13 plate appearances in the bottom of the first inning and plated nine runs to take early control of the contest against Highland. After an RBI single by Gray to bring in the first run the Conqs would have a home run parade as Nathan Harmon belted a two-run homer and Towchik and Cooper Schneider followed with solo home runs giving the Conqs three home runs in a row. The lead grew in the third for the Conqs with five runs as Harmon recorded an RBI double, Towchik tattooed a three-run home run, and Schneider hit another solo home run. Leading 14-0 the Conqs tallied four more runs in the fourth and then shut the door in the top of the fifth to secure the 18-0 win in five innings over Highland.Â
Brian Hallum was nails on the mound earning the win tossing four scoreless innings striking out eight while giving up just one hit and no walks.Â
Offensively the Conqs had the most runs they've scored this season and the most since March 30th of last season and produced their 18 runs on 13 hits. Harmon finished 2-3 with four RBI, two runs scored, a walk, a home run, and a double, while Twochik added a 2-3 game with two home runs, four RBI, and a walk. Schneider had a pair of solo home runs, while Gray was 3-3 with six RBI, two doubles, three runs scored, and a hit by pitch. Samuel Blanco added a 2-3 game with two runs scored.
