Box Score 4 Dodge City softball traveled to Denison, Texas to compete in the Winter Blast Tournament for the second straight year.
The Conquistadors took on some solid competition falling to #20 NJCAA Division II Cowley 8-0 and Paris Junior College 11-1 on day one of action. Day two saw the Conqs take on Eastern Oklahoma State and Western Oklahoma State falling 11-2 and 8-0, respectively.
The Conqs will wrap up the non-conference slate with their next games as they will travel to Arkansas City, Kansas, and take on #20 NJCAA DII Cowley for a doubleheader on Friday, February 16th.
Game 1 – Lost 8-0 vs Cowley
The Conqs opened the action in Denison, Texas taking on a ranked NJCAA DII foe in the Cowley Tigers. It was early offense for Cowley that put the Tigers in the drive set as they scored four in the bottom of the first then would add three in the third, and one more in the fifth to finish the contest at 8-0 in five innings.
The Conqs had just two hits as
Abigail Taylor was 1-2 with a double and
Camryn Lenz registered the Conqs' other hit going 1-2.
Josie Oakley drew a pair of walks in the contest. Inside the circle, the Conqs gave up just five hits but Cowley took advantage of 11 walks.
Game 2 – Lost 11-1 vs Paris
The Conqs saw their opponent get on the board early again as Paris tallied three runs in the top of the first inning and would then add two more in the third to lead 5-0. In the bottom of the third, the Conqs broke through working the bases loaded on a pair of walks and a hit batter, and a
Josie Oakley walk brought in a run for the Conqs. Paris took firm control of the contest behind six runs in the top of the fourth and the contest would end in the fifth at 11-1.
Rylie Miller was 1-2 with a double, while
Reneau Ratzlaff was 1-1 with a walk. Lenz drew a pair of walks on the day and
Sayge Salmans had a walk and run scored.
Toni Gabaldon tossed all five innings in the loss.
Game 3 – Lost 11-2 vs Eastern Oklahoma State
In the third game of the tournament in Denison, Texas the Conqs manufactured a run early plating the first run of the contest in the top of the first to lead Eastern Oklahoma State. Eastern Oklahoma State would have a pair of big innings in the contest to give them control as they scored five in the second and six in the fourth. The Conqs managed just one other coming in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Miller after working bases loaded with two walks and a single by Taylor. The Conqs however would ultimately fall 11-2 in five innings.
Oakley was 2-2 in the loss, while Taylor had a hit and Miller had an RBI. Ratzlaff scored both runs for the Conqs and drew three walks. Inside the circle Oakley, Lenz, and Gabaldon all saw action with Lenz tossing two innings.
Game 4 – Lost 8-0 vs Western Oklahoma State
The Conqs capped the Winter Blast Tournament in Dension, Texas with a tilt against Western Oklahoma State. The lead went to Western Oklahoma State early as they tallied a run in the bottom of the first and then added another in the second, three in the fourth, and three in the sixth to finish the contest at 8-0.
Taylor was 1-2 for the Conqs, while
Emily Yelton drew a walk for the lone two base runners for the Conqs.
