Baseball Takes Three of Four In Road Series Versus #19 New Mexico

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Dodge City baseball after a strong first weekend hit the road again this time heading to Hobbs, New Mexico for a four-game series against #19 New Mexico Junior College. 
 
The Conquistadors would flip the script against the Thunderbirds of New Mexico from the 2023 season as New Mexico won three of four that year the Conqs would take three of four this season.
 
Conqs opened the series with a 7-2 win and would take two on day one with an 11-7 win. On day two of the competition the Conqs would assure themselves the series with an 11-5 win in game three but then in game four would fall 13-5. 
 
The 3-1 showing on the weekend moves the Conqs to 5-2 on the season with some mid-week action on the docket next as the Conqs will compete at the University of Central Oklahoma Showcase in Edmond, Oklahoma on February 14th-15th for three games against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Coffeyville, and Seminole State. 
 
Game 1 – Won 7-2 at New Mexico 
The Conqs would fall behind early in the first game of the four-game series against New Mexico, but they would not trail for long and much throughout the series overall. New Mexico plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Conqs responded in the top of the third with four runs to take the 4-2 lead. The Conqs would get all four runs with two outs as RBI singles by Brian Hallum and Cooper Schneider along with a two-RBI single by Juan Rivera highlighted the inning. Conqs would get some insurance runs in the sixth scoring two and one more in the seventh. RBI triples by Alex Galyean and Nicholas Gray in the sixth and RBI single by Ethan Hewell in the seventh plated the runs for the Conqs who secured the 7-2 win. 
 
On the mound, Bryce Chambers was strong for the Conqs to earn the win tossing six innings, giving up just two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven. Josh Nolte capped the game tossing the seventh. 
 
Offensively it was a 13-hit attack for the Conqs led by Rivera who was 3-4 with a triple, two RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases. Schneider, Hewell, and Gray all were 2-4 in the contest with a double for Hewell and a triple for Gray. 
 
Game 2 – Won 11-7 at New Mexico 
The Conqs grabbed the lead early in game two of the series as Tate Blasi tattooed a solo home run in the top of the first inning and then the Conqs would score four more in the second to lead 5-0. After working the bases loaded on three-straight walks in the top of the second Peter Tassler brought in two runs on a single and Galyean added a two RBI double in the inning. New Mexico however would respond in the bottom of the second as they grabbed the lead with six runs. It remained 6-5 until the sixth when the Conqs took the lead back with two runs with a Nick Mesquita RBI single highlighting the inning. The Conqs would tally two more runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings, while New Mexico only managed just one more run as the Conqs won 11-7. 
 
Twelve hits paced the Conqs offense as Schneider was 3-4 with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI. Galyean finished 3-5 with two RBI and a double, while Tassler was 2-4 with a run scored, a walk, and three RBI. 
 
On the mound, Garret Carter tossed one inning and was followed by Hallum who tossed four and two-thirds, while Luis Santiago picked up the save tossing the final three innings. 
 
Game 3 – Won 11-5 at New Mexico
The bats continued to produce for the Conqs in game three of the series as they took the early lead again over New Mexico on the way to winning the series. The Conqs would get on the board with two runs in the top of the second but would not stop scoring three runs in the third and fourth innings each, while New Mexico tallied three runs over that time frame leading to an 8-3 Dodge City lead after four innings. New Mexico tightened up the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning but in the seventh, the Conqs solidified the game in their favor with three runs highlighted by a Jordan Rodriguez three-run home run which ultimately capped that game at 11-5. 
 
Conqs racked up 13 hits again as Rodriguez helped lead the charge going 2-3 with three RBI, a home run, a walk, and two runs scored. Rivera chipped in a 3-4 performance with a run scored, walk, and stolen base. Nathan Harmon, Schneider, and Hewell each had two hits in the victory. 
 
Michael Lopez picked up the win tossing four and two-thirds recording four strikeouts, while Jason Miller and Gray each recorded a pair of strikeouts in action. 
 
Game 4 – Lost 13-5 at New Mexico
The Conqs would take the early lead again in the series finale plating a run in the top of the second, but New Mexico snagged the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The lead swung back to the Conqs in the top of the fifth as Galyean and Rivera each had RBI singles and Hallum a two-RBI double in the inning leading to a 5-3 Dodge City lead. In the bottom of the fifth New Mexico tied the game at 5-5 and then the Thunderbirds would grab the lead with seven in the sixth and one more in the seventh to finish the game at 13-5 to give the Thunderbirds the series finale. 
 
Five guys saw action on the mound for the Conqs with Trenton Chenard getting the start working three and two-thirds of action. Rivera paced the Conqs going 2-4 with an RBI, stolen base, and run scored. Hallum added a 1-2 showing with a walk, double, and two RBI.
