Box Score 2 Dodge City softball opened the 2024 season on the road traveling down to Gainesville, Texas to take on North Central Texas College in a season-opening doubleheader.
The Conquistadors would battle in game one falling just 3-0 but game two saw plenty of offense for NCTC as the Conqs fell 14-0 in five innings.
The Conqs continue their first road trip of the season at #11 (NJCAA DII) Murray State in Tishomingo, Oklahoma for a doubleheader on Thursday, February 1st.
Game 1 – Lost 3-0 at NCTC
The Conqs opened the season in a scoreless battle with NCTC until the fourth inning of game one. NCTC would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth sending eight to the plate scoring three runs to take the lead. The Conqs would keep NCTC off the board in scoring opportunities in the fifth and sixth, but the offense struggled to get going with only a triple by
Madison Kacer in the sixth being the lone hit for the Conqs, as the Conqs fell 3-0.
Toni Gabaldon had a solid six innings of work inside the circle giving up three runs on eight hits, a walk, and hit batter, with one strikeout. Kacer recorded the lone hit for the Conqs with a triple.
Game 2 – Lost 14-0 at NCTC (5 innings)
The second game of the day saw early and often offense for the Conqs opposition as NCTC tallied two runs in the bottom of the second to take the initial lead. NCTC added six runs in the third and fourth innings each, while the Conqs had a walk by
Camryn Lenz in the second and then a single by
Reneau Ratzlaff in the third. The Conqs dropped game two 14-0 in five innings.
Josie Oakley and Lenz both saw action in the circle in the loss for the Conqs.
