Softball Snaps Losing Streak With Split Against Seward County

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dodge City softball returned to the win column with a doubleheader split in KJCCC play against Seward County as the Conquistadors dropped game one 7-1 but responded with a 7-6 win in game two to snap a 12-game losing streak. 
 
The Conqs moved to 13-20 on the season and 8-12 in KJCCC action. The season rolls on with three KJCCC doubleheaders at home next week starting with a pair of games against Pratt on Wednesday, April 12th, then two games against Northwest Kansas Tech on Thursday, April 13th, and closing out the week against Hutchinson on Saturday, April 15th. 
 
Game 1 – Lost 7-1 vs Seward County 
The Conqs got on the board in the bottom of the first to take the initial lead as Melanie Castro led the inning off with a single and then would ultimately score on a sacrifice fly by Addison Spencer. Seward had a big answer by batting around in the top of the sixth inning would tally six runs on six hits and added another in the third. While the Conqs would settle in and keep Seward off the board the rest of the game it was offensive struggles that would do in the Conqs as they managed just four more base runners and were unable to score falling 7-1. 
 
In the loss, Castro was 1-3 with a run scored, while Spencer added a 1-1 game with a walk and RBI. Mia Golka and Reneau Ratzlaff each added a single in the contest. K'lee Flores tossed three innings as the starter, while Dalaney Utajara tossed four innings of scoreless relief giving up just three hits. 
 
Game 2 – Won 7-6 vs Seward County
The Conqs would utilize late offense in game two of the doubleheader to snap their losing streak and split the twin-bill with Seward. The Saints of Seward got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first, but the Conqs snagged the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. A walk, single, and walk loaded the bases for the Conqs in the fourth, and Raemie Lopp cleared the bases with a triple to bring in three runs. The Conqs would add another run in the fourth and lead 4-2. Seward countered with a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4 but the Conqs regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Spencer. In the sixth Seward tallied a run and the Conqs then scored a pair of runs but would see Seward get a run in the top of the seventh and have the tying run in scoring position but held on for the 7-6 win. 
 
Spencer led the Conqs offense going 2-3 with a run scored and RBI, and Flores added a 1-1 game with an RBI. Jaciana Rivera, Castro, and Lopp each added a hit. Camryn Lenz tossed four innings as the starter and Utajara finished the contest tossing the final three innings earning the win.
