Softball Falls to #17 Hutchinson in Conference Doubleheader

April 15, 2023

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dodge City softball played host to #17 Hutchinson Blue Dragons for a KJCCC twin bill and the while the Conquistadors did their best to hang with the Blue Dragons it was lack of offense that doomed the Conqs.

The Conquistadors dropped both games to Hutchinson falling 8-0 in six innings and 7-0 moving to 17-22 on the season and 12-14 in KJCCC action.

The Conqs continue the season on Wednesday, April 19th when they hit the road for more KJCCC action traveling to Colby for a doubleheader.

Game 1 – Lost 8-0 vs Hutchinson (6 innings)
Early offense helped Hutchinson grab the lead versus the Conqs as the Blue Dragons drew a pair of walks to open the game and then would score both runners. The Blue Dragons looked for more in the first, working the bases loaded but the Conqs got out of the inning just surrendering two runs. The Conqs would manage to minimalize the damage done by Hutchinson throughout the contest in each half-inning but the Blue Dragons just slowly grew their lead. Hutchinson tallied a run in the third, another in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two more in the sixth. While hanging tough through the contest the Conqs offense would only manage four bases runners ultimately falling short 8-0 in six innings.

K'lee Flores in the loss tossed all six innings giving up eight runs on 13 hits and three walks, with two strikeouts. Addison Spencer had the lone Conq hit in the loss, while Dalaney Utajara and Reneau Ratzlaff each had a walk, and Camryn Lenz was hit by a pitch.

Game 2 – Lost 7-0 vs Hutchinson
The second game of the day was tight through the first six innings of work as Hutchinson took the early lead plating a run in the top of the first inning but the Blue Dragons would be unable to score again until the seventh as the Conqs would work around multiple base runners. In the top of the seventh Hutchinson would bat around and plate six runs on six hits, two walks, and an error in the inning. Once again the offense struggled against the Conqs with only three base runners on two hits and a walk leading to a 7-0 loss.

Utajara was strong inside the circle holding Hutchinson to just one run through six innings but finished giving up six runs on 10 hits, a hit batter, and one walk, with two strikeouts. Madison Kacer and Izabella Mikelson each had a hit in the loss.
