Brad Witherspoon Named KBCA Two-Year College Coach of the Year

April 15, 2023

The Dodge City men's basketball program has enjoyed back-to-back stellar seasons with runs to the Elite Eight of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament each year and KJCCC championships.

The 2022-23 season saw Brad Witherspoon leading the way for the Conquistadors as he took over the program and continued the recent success for the Conqs and that success this season earned him Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Coach of the Year honors.

The Conqs finished the season 25-10 overall and went 18-6 in KJCCC action leading to a KJCCC Championship for the second straight year. The team also earned a bid to the NJCAA DI National Tournament and would go 2-1 in action with a run to the Elite Eight in year one under Coach Witherspoon.

Witherspoon picked up KJCCC DI Coach of the Year honors for guiding the Conqs to the KJCCC title, while he had four players earn All-Conference honors, along with Jason Edwards being named KJCCC DI Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. He also had Edwards and Chris Robinson both earn honors at the national tournament and Edwards picked up first-team NJCAA DI All-American honors.

In just two seasons as head coach, Witherspoon has won 46 games and two conference titles doing so this past season with the Conqs and two years ago at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.

The Conqs and Coach Witherspoon will look to reload and revamp the roster for two years under his guidance with several players departing from this past season's team, as he looks to continue the Conqs' basketball success.
