Box Score Dodge City volleyball wrapped up the regular season hosting Colby in KJCCC action and would push the Trojans to the brink going five sets in the contest but the Conquistadors would fall in five.
The Conqs dropped the regular season finale in five sets to Colby (25-18, 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12). The loss moved the Conqs to 15-16 on the season and 6-10 in KJCCC play.
Colby came out strong to open the night working to an early 9-2 lead in the first set and despite the Conqs cutting the lead to one at 11-10 the Trojans used the strong start to take the first set pushing the lead back out as the Trojans won the first set 25-18. Set two was different as the Conqs started strong jumping up 8-4 and despite Colby getting to within one at 16-15 the Conqs held off the Trojans to grow their lead back out late and take the second set 25-19. The third set was a back-and-forth affair but a 6-0 run by the Conqs had them up 18-13 however Colby mounted a run of their own and ended the set strong to snag it 25-23. Needing the fourth set to stay alive the Conqs answered the call jumping 11-3 in the fourth set and would keep Colby at arm's length in the set to grab it 25-18. The match would head to a fifth set and the Conqs held an early lead 7-5 but then Colby tied the set at 9-9 and then 12-12, Colby then finished the match on a 3-0 run to take the fifth set 15-12.
In the loss, Tess De Zanet tallied 14 kills, eight digs, and two aces, while Beatriz Lampugnani Cornachini chipped in 12 kills, eight digs, two aces, a solo block, and four block assists. Leisey Keli'i recorded 17 digs and two aces, while Sierra Scanlan had 39 assists and 15 digs.
The Conqs gear up for the postseason as they will hit the road for the first round of Plains District tournament action on Wednesday, November 1st with the opponent still to be announced, as the Conqs will play at either Colby or Hutchinson.
