Box Score (Dodge City, KS.) – In a game where neither offense was great, Pratt's offense was just a little bit better leading to the Conquistador Men's Basketball team losing their 11
th straight game.
The first half did not start well, with the Beavers starting out the game on an 8-0 run. They were able to get out to a 15-4 lead in the first 6 minutes of the half. It was 21-11 before the Conquistadors were finally able to start to get things going.
Kevin Howard was a catalyst in the Conqs going on a 12-0 run. Howard was able to score seven of the thirteen by himself. After the run, Dodge City held a 23-21 lead with just 1:24 remaining in the half. Pratt was able to end the run at that point by tying up the game on a Layup from Jerome Bivins. With 43 seconds remaining,
Kevin Howard made a free throw to give the Conquistadors a 24-23 lead, and that would be the score going into the second half.
In the first half,
Kevin Howard was a bright spot scoring 14 points,
Kobe Haley also was a catalyst, although it will not show in the box score.
As a team, Dodge City would shoot 26.5% in the first half, and 18.2% from three-point range.
The second half would start with more offensive firepower as both teams would battle back and forth for the first several minutes. Both teams would already be in double-digits in the half 5 minutes into the second half. At 15:08, the two teams were deadlocked at 34 after a jump shot by UniQue Mercy. The Beavers and Conqs would continue to battle back and forth until Pratt was able to get some breathing room with four unanswered points, making it 40-36 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest. At 44-39, they were able to create some more breathing room for themselves. Pratt would continue to expand that lead and go on 14-4 run. They were up 15, 58-43 with 7:46 remaining. The Conqs would fight back once again, however as they would go on a big run of their own. A 12-1 run would pull the Conquistadors within 4 points. A layup from Pratt would end the run with 2:25 remaining to make their lead six points.
Kevin Howard would then continue his great game by hitting a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 3 points at, 61-58. Unfortunately, that is the closest the Conquistadors would get, as the Beavers would end the game on a 6-0 run leading to the Dodge City 67-58 defeat on Sophomore Night.
Kevin Howard was the star of the game for DC3. He scored 27 points and added 14 rebounds.
Dodge City Community College shot 32.3% for the game and 30.4% from the three-point arc. Pratt won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Conqs 50-36.
Dodge City is scheduled to play what will be their last game of the season on Saturday, against Northwest Kansas Technical College.
