Year five under Head Coach
Brad Witherspoon, the Dodge City men's basketball team looks to build off a strong 2025-26 season that saw them finish third in the Jayhawk Conference and finish 20-11 overall.
The Conquistadors averaged 82.6 points per game last season while allowing 83.1. The Conqs proved to be a gritty team, claiming 18 of their 20 wins by single digits, while five of their losses were by single digits and nine of them by 12 points or less.
Conqs will need to replace a significant portion of their scoring as only three players return with playing experience from last season. Leading the charge into the season is honorable mention All-KJCCC honoree
Brad Johnson Jr., who returns after a strong freshman year. Johnson, who will be at guard and perhaps a bit at the wing for the Conqs, was last season the Conqs third-leading scorer at 10.8 points per game, while adding five rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, playing in all 31 games last year.
Both
Andrew Mabry and
Christian Brockett are back after suiting up for the Conqs last season and look to make a leap into bigger roles this season in the backcourt. Mabry primarily came off the bench last season but played in all 31 games, averaging 7.6 points per game and shooting 42.6% from three, while adding 1.5 rebounds per game. Brockett gives the Conqs another steady hand to control the ball and a guy who will keep doing the little things to win ball games. He averaged 2.2 points per game last season off the bench primarily but played in all 31 games, while also averaging 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Also returning for the Conqs are
DJ Brown and
Landon Simpson, who both redshirted last season and look to take the year in the Conqs system and under coach Witherspoon to jump into the mix this season and contribute. Brown will be a swing player who can play both backcourt and frontcourt, while Simpson will add backcourt depth with his experience from his redshirt season.
A pair of guards transfer in for the Conqs as they look to make an impact.
Tidiane D'Almeida comes to Dodge City after spending last season at the NCAA Division I level at Lindenwood where he played in 10 games, while
Amaree Pickens brings a year of experience at the NJCAA with him to Dodge City. Pickens suited up at Florida State College of Jacksonville last season, playing in 29 games, averaging 10.8 points per game on 40.5% shooting, and adding 2.4 rebounds, two assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
Seven true freshmen finish out the Conqs roster for the 2026-27 season, and all look to jump into the fold and make an impact from the start. At guard,
Ashton Parker,
Lenox Haynes, and
Carmelo Swinson all look to work into the mix. At forward,
Matias Haliseva,
Phoenix Eggleston,
Jason Patrick, and
Soann Kouassi will all factor into what the Conqs do inside the paint.
The Conqs will open the 2026-27 season on the road at the Western Texas College Classic, taking on Western Texas and Howard on October 30
th and 31
st in Snyder, Texas. Conqs will take the court at the Student Activity Center for the first time on November 2
nd when they host Western Nebraska. The non-conference schedule also includes matchups against North Platte and Ranger at the Garden City CC Classic on November 6
th and 7
th, along with a home game against South Plains on November 10
th. Jayhawk Conference play opens on November 18
