Box Score (Dodge City, Kansas) – The Conquistador Men's Basketball team lost their 10
th straight contest as they fell to Hutchinson Community College 94-53.
The first several minutes of the first half were very even on Wednesday night. After just over 10 minutes, the Blue Dragons held a 14-11 lead. It was at that point that it all started to unravel for Dodge City. A 5-0 run by Hutchinson led to a timeout by Coach
Steve Tucker. Holding a 26-16 lead Hutchinson would go on another extended run, this time 14-0. Dodge City was able to counter this one a bit, as they would proceed to go on a 7-0 run of their own to cut the Blue Dragons lead down to 17 at 40-23. Hutchinson would then close the first half on a 10-0 run making it 50-23 heading into halftime.
In the first half Dodge City shot 27.8% from the field, and 16.4% from three. They turned the ball over 8 times.
The first few minutes of the second half were back and forth with the Conqs actually holding a 6-4 advantage early. Dodge City struggled all game long preventing runs by Hutchinson, and they were able to go on their 5
th of the game here. They outscored the Conquistadors 5-0 over the next two minutes leading to a timeout. They would score 4 more after the timeout before DC3 was finally able to get a bucket from
Kevin Howard to end the run. At this point, it was 63-31 leading to a timeout. Coming out of the timeout Hutch would score 8 unanswered to give them a 38 point lead. Several minutes later Hutchinson would go on another 7-0 run to make the score 88-39. Dodge City would answer with a 7-0 run and outscore Hutchinson the remainder of the game 14-6.
In the second half, Dodge City shot 26.8% and hit just 1 of 9 from 3 point range.
For the game, the Conqs shot 27.3% from the field, and 14.3% from 3. They struggled at the free throw line, shooting just 50%.
Jyrus Freels and
Justice Dixon were the only players who scored in double figures for Dodge City with 13, and 10 points respectively.
On Saturday afternoon Dodge City Community College travels to Garden City to face off against the Broncbusters at 4 PM.
