Conq Men with Busy Week Ahead

Dodge City, KS. -- The Dodge City Community College Men's Basketball team has its work cut out for it this week. On Monday they are at Home to take on Seward County Community College at 7:30 PM. They will then go on the road for two more games this week. Wednesday night they will take on Hutchinson Community College and Saturday night they will face Garden City Community College.
The Series
Vs. Seward
  • Since 2014-15, it has been fairly even as DC3 has a 5-4 lead in the series.
  • Seward County has won the previous 3 meetings in the series.
  • Mason Senigaur had one of his best games of the year in the loss earlier in the season. He had 16 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field and the 3 point arc.  
Vs. Hutchinson
  • Hutchinson has gotten the better of the Conqs in recent history, holding a 7-3 edge in the series.
  • Hutchinson has won 3 of the last 4 matchups in the series.
  • In the prior matchup this year, the Conqs struggled in overtime, getting outscored 12-4 to take the 98-90 loss.
  • Both Kevin Howard and Jyrus Freels produced double doubles in that contest, with Howard scoring 19 and grabbing 10 rebounds. Freels also scored 19 but grabbed 12 rebounds. Justice Dixon added 12 assists.
Vs. Garden City
  • Dodge City holds a slight edge in the series since 2014-15 with a 5-4 advantage.
  • Garden City has won the previous 2 meetings.
  • The Conqs got another double double from Jyrus Freels the last time these two teams met. He had 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds.  
Fast Break
  • It has been a tough go of it recently for Dodge City as they have now lost 7 straight games.
  • Dodge City fell in a close contest to Colby Community College 70-62 and also were defeated by Barton Community College 89-68 last week.
  • The game against Colby was decided in the first half as the Conqs were not able to get anything going offensively in the first half. They were outscored 33-23 in a first half where the conqs shot well below 40%.
  • As usual, Jyrus Freels had a great game as he posted a line of 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
  • Against Barton, Dodge City came out of the gates with a lot of energy and actually held a 22-17 lead. From that point on Barton had their way with the Conqs, outscoring them 72-46 the remainder of the game.
Scouting
Seward
  • Seward County Community College is currently leading the West division of the KJCCC with a 13-3 record in the conference.
  • They are 20-5 overall but just 5-3 on the road.
  • They pride themselves on their defensive play as they are allowing teams to score just 65.3 points per game.
  • They have won 3 straight games.
  • Last week they knocked off Garden City CC in a tight one-point contest, 75-74. They also were victorious over Pratt CC 76-53.
Hutchinson
  • Hutchinson is 19-6 overall, 10-6 in conference but have not been great on the road, as they are just 5-4.
  • Hutchinson is a strong offensive team. Currently they are third in the conference, scoring just over 87 points per game. They shoot the 3rd best percentage from the field, and 2nd best percentage from 3 in the conference.
  • They have lost 3 of their past 4 games.
  • Last week they defeated Northwest Kansas Technical College and were defeated handily by Garden City Community College. They beat NWKTC 100-69 and lost to Garden City 93-58.
Garden City
  • It has been a bit of a struggle for the Broncbusters this year as they are 10-15 overall and 5-11 in conference. They are 4-7 on the road.
  • They have lost 5 of the last 7 games.
  • They lost at Seward in a tightly contested 75-74 game, and defeated Hutchinson 93-58 this past week.
