Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - After winning game one against Pratt, 11-3 in six innings, game two was more of a battle as the Conqs walked off on the Beavers, 8-7 to complete the season sweep.
Jordyn McDaniel got the start in the circle in game one and threw all six innings and allowed just three runs on eight hits. Just one of the three runs were earned.Â
Jade Brallier was a perfect 3-for-3 in game one, scoring three runs and driving in one run, while McDaniel helped out her cause by driving in three runs in the game.
After the Beavers got on the board first on a wild pitch, the Conqs offense took over, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. After back-to-back singles and a walk to start the inning, McDaniel then grounded into a fielder's choice to give the Conqs their first run.
Brittany Kendall then scored on an error and
Caley Best followed it up with a double to score another run. Back-to-back sac-bunts then gave Dodge City two more runs to give the Conqs a 5-1 lead after just one inning.
In the top of the fourth, Pratt was able to get two more runs to cut the lead to 5-3, but Dodge City quickly responded one more time getting one run in the bottom of the fifth as Brallier stole home.Â
Dodge City then reached the run-rule in the bottom of the sixth on a double from McDaniel, a single from Brallier and a single from
Brooklyn Botts to win game one, 11-3.
Brittany Kendall got the call in game one, but only collected one out before head coach Howie Smith made the change to
Natalie Segovia who pitched 6.2 innings and allowed 5 runs on 12 hits.
Again in game two, the Beavers scored first, this time getting two runs across without collecting a single hit to take an early 2-0 lead.Â
In the bottom of the second, the Conqs got on the board as
Emily Stephenson laid down a great squeeze bunt to score one, the
Caley Best stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to tie the game at two.
Another squeeze bunt in the bottom of the third gave Dodge City a one run lead, then the Conqs scored another run on an inning ending double play to take a 4-2 lead after just three innings.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Leslie Ortiz beat out an infield single to score Best from third to extend the Dodge City lead to 5-2 with just three innings to play.
Pratt got one run back in the top of the fifth, but the Conqs fired right back as Brallier reached on a walk. She then stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on another wild pitch to push the lead back to three, 6-3.
In the very next inning, after getting two quick outs, the Beavers collected four straight singles to tie the game at six. Stephenson then doubled to leadoff the bottom of the sixth. After
Lori Mullins pinch-ran and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Botts singled to give the lead back to Dodge City, 7-6.
A leadoff error came back to bite the Conqs in the top of the seventh as it came around to score to tie the game at seven and send the game to the bottom of the seventh. McDaniel then reached on a fielder's choice, and after stealing second, Best doubled to left and scored McDaniel to give Dodge City an 8-7 win in game two.Â
Dodge City is now 11-19 on the year and 4-8 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Northwest Tech in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
