Box Score EL DORADO, Kan. – Coming off a big win last weekend against Garden City, the Conquistadors could not find a way to string two wins together as they fell to Butler on Wednesday evening, 81-56.
Tajae Anderson and
Jyrus Freels were the only two Conquistadors to score in double figures while Anderson also led Dodge City with nine rebounds.
Dodge City had just eight points off of turnovers while Butler was able to collect 25 points off turnovers.
The Grizzlies were able to grab an early lead but could not pull away. Just after the media timeout, the Conqs were able to cut the lead to two, but Butler would not give in, quickly pushing the lead back to six, 29-23.
In the final five minutes of the first quarter, the Conqs only were able to score two points as the Grizzlies added to their lead, taking a 37-25 lead into the locker room.
The Conquistadors came out strong in the second half with
Tamaje Blackwell and
Jyrus Freels combining for six points to cut the Butler lead in half, 37-31.
After cutting the lead to six, the Grizzlies found their rhythm, pushing their lead to 58-42 just before the media timeout.
The Grizzlies never lost their stride for the remainder of the game, adding to their lead until the final buzzer. The Conquistadors could not find a way to make a come back as they fell to Butler, 81-56.
Dodge City moves to 8-16 on the year and 6-14 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Saturday as they host Barton at 3 p.m. The Cougars won the first meeting, 74-97.
