Box Score 2 PRATT, Kan. – Scoring 25 runs in two games, the Conquistadors swept Pratt Community College on Wednesday to open up conference play by scores of 12-5 and 13-4 (6 Innings).
Brittney Gonzalez led off the game and after stealing two bases, scored on a sac-fly to make it 1-0. The very next batter,
Samantha Montano hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first.
After the Beavers got one run back in the first, the Conqs quickly got that run back as Gonzalez was able to score again as Pratt's catcher threw the ball off of Montano's helmet to make it 3-1.
The Conqs held the Beavers scoreless in the bottom of the second, and added two more runs in the top of the third on a two-run home run from
Brooklyn Botts to make it 5-1. Pratt then fired right back in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run of their own to make the Dodge City lead, 5-3.
In the fourth, the Beavers tied the game at five with another two-run home run, but Botts then hit her second home run of the game to make it 6-5. After two runners got on, Montano tripled to right to score two and later scored on a single from
Jordyn McDaniel to make it 9-5.
In the top of the sixth, the Conqs were able to collect three final runs to take a 12-5 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Beavers went down in order giving the Conqs a 12-5 win in game one.
In game two, the bats were hot right out of the gate as they Conqs quickly scored four runs. With two outs, the Conqs then collected a two-run double and a two-run home run by Gonzalez to make the score 8-0 after just one inning of play.
The Beavers would score two runs in the bottom of the second, but that is all that they would plate in the inning. In the top of the third the Conqs were able to get one run and then in the top of the fifth Montano plated two more to give Dodge City an 11-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Beavers were able to score the two runs they needed to keep the game alive, cutting the score to 11-4. The Conqs were then able to get those two runs back in the top of the sixth and the Beavers went down in order in the bottom half, giving Dodge City the 13-4 win.
Dodge City is now 7-3 on the year and 2-0 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Friday as they travel to Lamar Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
