Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Dodge City men's basketball team wrapped up its regular season on Monday night, falling to No. 11 Hutchinson by a score of 76-58.
Kevin Howard led with 15 points, while
Jyrus Freels added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Dayton McGroarty was also able to pull down eight boards.
The Blue Dragons were on fire to start the game, jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead and forcing Dodge City to call two timeouts in the first four minutes. Coming out of the timeout,
Marquis McCray and
Justice Dixon hit back-to-back shots to cut the lead to 10-5, but the Conqs then scored just five points in the next six minutes as Hutchinson extended their lead to 25-10 by the media timeout.
Hutchinson got their lead to 18 in the first half, but the Conquistadors would not go away, beginning and comeback and cutting the lead to 11 with just over a minute to play in the first half. Both teams then traded baskets and went to the locker room with Hutchinson leading, 41-30.
To start the second half, the Conqs came out with some energy and quickly cut the lead to single digits. Cutting the lead to seven with just over 13 minutes left pushed the momentum to Dodge City.
The Conqs then went cold from the field, letting Hutchinson push their lead back to 64-48 with 4:51 to play. The largest lead the Blue Dragons would get was 22, but by the end of the game, cut the lead to 18 as No. 11 Hutchinson won, 76-58.
The Conqs end the regular season with an overall record of 8-22 and 6-20 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Thurs., March 1 for postseason play. More information on where and when the Conqs will play will be posted on goconqs.com as soon as it is available.
