Box Score ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – Jyrus Freels set a new career-high on Wednesday night, scoring 28 points, but his offensive output was not enough as the Conqs fell to Cowley College, 93-80.
 
Setting a new career-high, Jyrus Freels led the way on the offensive end, scoring 28 points. Freels' previous high came against Bethany College JV on Nov. 6 when he scored 20 points.
 
Along with his 28 points, Freels also grabbed seven rebounds. Bruce Hodges was the only other player in double figures with 12, while Tajae Anderson pulled down a team-high 10 boards.
 
Dodge City started the game out hot, grabbing an early 9-2 lead and forcing the Tigers to call their first timeout just two minutes into the game. The Tigers would not let the lead get out of hand, quickly cutting the lead to 20-18.
 
After tying the game at 22, the Tigers went on a 13-4 run to take their first lead of the game and eventually push the lead to 35-26.
 
Trailing by nine, Tajae Anderson drove baseline and rose up for a thunderous slam to cut the lead to seven, but the Tigers retained the momentum and pushed their lead to 13.
 
The largest the deficit got in the first half was 17, but Tamaje Blackwell scored five straight points to cut it to 12, but a three-pointer with less than ten seconds pushed it back to 15 before the half.
 
Dodge City was able to cut the lead to single digits, but Cowley then went on a long run as they quickly pushed it back to 77-59 at the media timeout.
 
The Conquistadors were able to cut the lead to 10 late, but that is the closest they would get as the Tigers held them at arms reach to win, 93-80.
 
Dodge City is now 8-18 overall and 6-16 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Saturday as they host Allen County at 3 p.m., inside the Student Activity Center.
