Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Despite knocking down 10 three pointers, the Conquistadors were not able to come from behind to defeat Barton on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cougars, 97-92.
The Conquistadors had five players in double figures, but
Justice Dixon led the way, scoring 21 points while
Tajae Anderson,
Jyrus Freels,
Dayton McGroarty and
Jordan Seniguar added 16, 16, 12 and 12 respectively. Seniguar's 12 points sets a new career-high for the freshman.Â
Although the Conqs made five more shots than the Cougars, Barton shot 52.6 percent from the field and also went 32-for-38 from the free throw line while the Conqs went just 12-of-14.
The Cougars were able to snag the lead early, but seven minutes into the first half, Dixon hit his only three of the game to give Dodge City their first lead, 13-11.
With 16 lead changes throughout the first half and the score being tied five times, the largest lead on either side was Barton leading by four with 3:19 to play in the half. A jumper by Elijah Ford of Barton with 58 seconds left sent the teams into the locker room with Barton leading, 41-38.
Six minutes into the second half, a three-pointer by Noah Webster extended the Barton lead to nine points. Dodge City would not go away as
Jordan Seniguar connected on a layup to cut the lead to three with 8:52 to play.
Late in the game, Barton got their lead back to nine, but McGroarty was able to hit a highly contested three with 13 seconds left to bring it back to three. Going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 10 seconds, the Cougars finished out the game, winning, 97-92.
The Conqs move to 8-17 on the year and are now 6-15 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Cowley College at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers won the first matchup, 81-78.
