Box Score After dropping two games against teams at the top of the Eastern Division of the KJCCC, the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team was looking to get back on the winning track in their final game before the semester break against Allen Community College. The Conqs got exactly what they were looking for with an 88 to 62 victory over the Red Devils with a very strong effort from their sophomores.
The Conqs came out sluggish in the first quarter as neither team could seem to settle into a comfortable rhythm on offense. At the end of the first quarter the Conqs held a very slim lead at 15 to 14. In the second quarter each team exploded offensively. Allen got an expected contribution from leading scorer Ariel Walker, but they also got a huge unexpected contribution from Paige Jensen who had only hit six threes on the year coming into the game but hit three in the second quarter for the Devils. The Conqs were up to the challenge as they also got hot behind the arc and moved the game into high gear. Dodge City scored 28 points in the second quarter to Allen's 21 and took a 43 to 35 lead into the halftime break.
The third quarter was much of the same for Dodge City as they stretched their lead to double digits early in the quarter and never really looked back. They used the outside shooting of
Fredrionna Adams and
Ashley Nelson to tally 24 points in the third period and led by a 67-50 margin going into the final ten minutes. Dodge City did not let up in the fourth quarter as they started getting their inside game going to complement the guard play.
Kaylee Dale had a huge third and fourth quarter to really put the Conqs in charge. They actually stretched the lead out to 30 points for a very brief period of time. In the end Allen was able to cut into that lead slightly in the final minutes of the game, but Dodge City still came away with the 26 point win.
Dodge City used a very balanced scoring attack to put up their highest point total of the year as only two players reached double figures. Dale scored 13 points on perfect shooting for the night and also grabbed a team high eight rebounds. She was 6 for 6 from the floor and 1 for 1 from the free throw line on the night. Nelson also scored 13 points to be the other Conq in double figures.
Makaela Ewing,
Ashia Pool, and
Haleigh Hill all came up one point short of double figures scoring nine each. Pool also dished out six assists to lead the way for Dodge City.
The win pushes the Conqs to a record of 8-5 overall and 3-2 in Jayhawk Conference play. They will return to action after the break on January 5, 2019. That game will be a non-conference game with Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at the Student Activity Center in Dodge City.
