Box Score The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team knew they faced a big challenge in their game against South Plains College at the Seward County Pepsi Classic. After playing a very solid first half, SPC pulled away from the Conq women in the second half to secure an 80-51 victory.
The first quarter was a very close affair as the Conqs got off ot a good start, but South Plains was also solid as they outscored the Conqs 18 to 13 in the opening period. The second period was very similar as the Conqs once again scored 13 points, but they gave up only 15. That made the score 33 to 26 at the half.
The Conqs were very solid through the first three minutes of the second half as they called a timeout at the 7:13 mark of the third quarter only trailing 29-35. From that point South Plains went on a run that the Conqs just couldn't seem to stop and the Conqs went cold from the field. At the end of the third quarter South Plains had stretched their lead out to 47-35. SPC would not stop there. They exploded offensively in the fourth quarter as they scored 33 points in the final period. The Conqs had their best offensive quarter scoring 16, but it was not near enough as they fell by the final 29 point margin.
Dodge City did not have a player break into double digit scoring, but were very balanced in their scoring.
Haleigh Hill led the way with 9 points against her former team. Asia Pool and
Allie Baker scored seven points a piece and
Rylee Burris hit two threes to finish with six points of her own. The Conqs were outrebounded by a 35-26 margin and turned the ball over 17 times.
"That is a good team we played today," said head coach
Zach Loll. "We let them get away a little more than we should have there at the end, but they are definitely a team that will help us prepare for the rest of the season."
Dodge City will be back in action on Friday at 6:00pm when they host the first day of the Conq Classic at the Student Activity Center. That will be their home opener.
