Conqs Play Tough but Fall to Independence

Madi Spencer led Dodge City with eight kills and five digs
Box Score The Dodge City Community College volleyball team traveled to Independence on Friday hoping to pick up a conference road win. In the end they fell in four sets to the Pirates although the total point differential for the entire match was only two points in favor of Independence.

The Conqs dropped the first two sets of the match, but they were both very tightly contested as they fell by scores of 25-21 and 25-23. They were able to come back and take the third set in the match by a 25-19 score to force a fourth set. In that set neither team wanted to fall. They battled to extra points, but in the end Independence came away with a 28-26 victory to secure the match three sets to one.

Madi Spencer led the Conqs by registering eight kills and five digs on the night. Destiny Velasquez helped the offensive effort with seven kills of her own, and Blair Rockhold tied Spencer with five digs as well for Dodge City. Gabby Valdez tallied 27 assists to lead the Conqs in that area.

Dodge City will be back in action on Tuesday night at 6:30pm at the Student Activity Center when they host Garden City Community College.
