Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Despite collecting 16 second chance points, the Conquistador men's basketball team fell to Independence Community College by a score of 91-79 on Saturday night.

Both Kevin Howard and Ishawn Murphy scored 16 points on Saturday while teammate Tajae Anderson scored 11 points in the loss. Murphy was able to knock down four threes in the game, going 6-for-14 from the field.

The Pirates were able to open the game on a 9-0 run, but the Conquistadors finally found the bottom of the net as Howard sunk two free throws to open the scoring for the Conquistadors. With 13:13 left in the first half, Justice Dixon found Murphy for his first three of the game to tie the game at 15.

Both teams battled for the remainder of the half as Independence eventually extended their lead to 12 points with 1:53 to play. Dodge City then finished the second half strong as Dixon and Anderson combined for a 8-0 run to cut the lead to four, heading into the locker room with the Conqs trailing, 40-36.

The second half was a battle for the Conquistadors as every time the Conquistadors found some momentum, the Pirates were able to find an answer and keep the Conqs at arms length. With 7:54 in the game, Independence was able to push their lead to double digits and the Conquistadors were never able to get the lead back single digits as Indy was able to collect an 18 point lead with 2:42 to play. 

A three with 45 seconds to play by Murphy cut the lead to 12, but it was too little too late as the Conquistadors lost to Independence, 91-79.

The Conqs are now 5-10 on the year and 3-8 in conference play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Seward at 7:30 p.m.
