Box Score PRATT, Kan. – Coming off five consecutive losses, the Dodge City women's basketball team travelled to Pratt Community College and defeated the Beavers, 59-54 on Saturday afternoon.
Alec Fitts led the way for the Conquistadors with a career-high 18 points. Fitts' previous high was 14 points against Cloud on Nov. 11. Along with her 18 points, Fitts led Dodge City with eight rebounds.
Allie Baker also was a big contributor on Saturday with 14 points and seven rebounds.
On the Conqs very first possession,
Addison Rowley was able to knock down a three-pointer, but scoring came at a minimum for the next five minutes, as the Beavers were able to take the lead 9-8 with 4:30 to play in the first quarter.
The Beavers were able to hold a one point lead, but Rowley knocked down a big three, followed by a mid-range jumper by
Alec Fitts gave Dodge City a 19-15 lead with 25 seconds left in the first quarter.
For the first 4:15 of the second quarter, the Conqs went scoreless until
Taylor Lee broke the scoreless streak with a three to tie the game at 23 and begin a 13-0 run that gave Dodge City a 33-23 lead. The Conqs allowed just one point for the rest of the quarter and added three of their own to take a 36-24 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, both teams struggled to get shots to fall, as the Beavers were able to cut the lead to 10 with just over two minutes to play in the quarter. After Dodge City pushed the lead back to 12, an unconventional three-point play by the Beavers cut the lead to single digits, 44-35.
Amour'ee Morrison was able to get a layup to fall with just five seconds left to take a 48-39 lead into the final quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter Fitts found a rhythm from the three-point line, drilling two three-pointers in a row to a give Dodge City a 54-39 lead. The Beavers would not go away late, as they were able to cut the lead to five with just 2:00 to play in the game.
The Beavers were able to find a way to cut the lead to three with 1:35 to play, but three free throws quickly pushed the lead back to six. With 24 seconds left, Nya Mach sank a big three and cut the lead to three, but two free throws from
Allie Baker and
Alec Fitts pushed the lead back to five as the Conqs held on to defeat Pratt, 59-54.
The Conqs are now 6-12 overall and 3-12 in conference play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m.
