Box Score PRATT, Kan. – Trailing by as much as 19 points in the first half, the Conquistadors were able to make a comeback and take the lead but were unable to get the win, falling to Pratt Community College, 80-70.
Marquis McCray had one of his best games of the season, falling just short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Justice Dixon was also able to drop 15 points while
Jyrus Freels added 14.
The Beavers came out in a full-court press to start the game and the pressure got to the Conqs early as Pratt was able to get a 24-11 lead by the media timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Beavers did not slow down, extending their lead to 34-15, late in the half.
The Conquistadors finished the half on a strong note, outscoring the Beavers 12-4 in the final two minutes of the half to head into the locker room trailing, 38-27.
In the first five minutes of the second half, the Conqs continued their run that ended the first half and outscored the Beavers, 29-8 in a span of eight minutes to take their first lead of the game, 44-42.
The Beavers were able to take the lead back and after the media timeout extended their lead to 61-53 with 7:00 to play. Just two minutes later, Dixon and Anderson hit back-to-back threes and cut the lead to 62-59, but the Beavers quickly pushed it back to 65-59 on an unconventional three-point play.
Late in the second half, the Beavers began to pull away and pushed their lead to 10 with 2:00 to play, but a layup off of a turnover by the Conqs cut the lead to eight. The Conquistadors could not get shots to fall late as the Beavers knocked down their free throws and won, 80-70.
The Conqs are now 6-13 overall and 4-11 in conference play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Coffeyville at 7:30 p.m.
