Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. – For just the second time this season Dodge City volleyball played five sets, falling to Butler, 3-2 by scores of 25-22, 12-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 9-15. In the second match of the day, the Conquistadors knocked off Labette in four sets, by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-13 and 25-20.
 
To start the day, the Conqs came out strong in set one. After both teams traded points, with the score tied, 13-13, a hitting error by Butler and back-to-back kills from Rachael Slattery and 
Jaylen Pegues extended the lead to 16-13. After a timeout by the Grizzlies, both teams traded points again with Dodge City coming out on top, 25-22.
 
In set two, Dodge City quickly fell behind 8-0 before a kill by 
Alex Stecklein ended the run. Butler continued their strong play throughout the rest of the second set, extending their lead to 16-7 before Dodge City called their second timeout. A kill by Butler ended the set, with the Grizzlies winning, 25-12.
 
Three straight attacking errors for the Conqs put Dodge City behind 3-0 early in set three, but the Conquistadors were able to fight back, tying the game at 10. A service ace by 
Gabriella Valdez gave Dodge City just its third lead of the game, 12-11. Later in the match, with the score tied at 14, the Conqs had three more attacking errors to give Butler a 17-14 lead. Butler held their lead for the remainder of the set, winning set three, 25-22.
 
In set four, Dodge City was able to grab an early 4-1 lead after three attacking errors by Butler and a kill from 
Kate Warren. That lead was quickly erased and Butler took a 10-6 lead on a service ace. The Grizzlies led until an attack error tied the game at 14. Butler grabbed the lead again, but the Conqs fought back and took a 20-19 lead on a kill by 
Raquel Valdez. The Conquistadors would not give up the lead, winning the fourth set, 25-22.
 
To begin the fifth set, both teams traded points until Butler grabbed a 10-7 lead on back-to-back attacking errors by the Conqs. Following Dodge City's first timeout, the Grizzlies never looked back, winning the set, 15-9 and winning the match, 3-2.
In game two, Dodge City took a 5-4 lead in set one. After three straight attacking errors by Labette, and a service ace from Stecklein, Dodge City quickly extended their lead to 10-5. Labette was able to cut the lead to four, but the Conquistadors quickly pushed the lead back to 10, winning set one, 25-15
Dodge City was able to take a 10-7 lead in the beginning of set two, but Labette was able to tie the game at 16. Three straight kills by Labette pushed the lead to 18-16 forcing the Conqs to call a timeout. Labette kept their foot on the gas, finishing set two, winning, 25-21.
With Doge City leading set three, 8-6, the Conqs then went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 12-6. Dodge City was not going to let Labette back into the game, extending the lead to 12, winning set three, 25-13 on a kill from 
Kate Warren.
Set four did not start the way that the Conqs wanted it to, trailing early by a score of 7-0. After a timeout, DC3 came out with more fight, battling back to tie the game at 11. A service ace by Jaylen Pegues gave Dodge City their first lead of the game, 12-11. Labette took the lead right back, going up 17-15, but back-to-back attacking errors opened the door for the Conqs to come back again. Dodge City was able to take the lead and eventually took the fourth set, 25-20, winning the match, 3-1.
The Conqs are now 9-7 on the year and will be in action again tomorrow for the second day of the Dodge City Invitational at 10 a.m., vs. Trinidad State and 2 p.m., vs. Allen County.
