Women Kickoff Season with 88-47 win vs. Sterling

Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - On the first game of the season, the Conquistador women's basketball team rolled through Sterling College JV, as they won 88-47 on Wednesday night.

Allie Baker collected a team-high 12 points while Addison Rowley, Taylor Lee and Rylee Burris all posted double-figures. The Conquistador defense stood strong as the Warriors had 40 turnovers on the day, with four steals coming from Burris.

Dodge City got behind very early, but after taking the lead at 8-7, the Conqs never looked back, leading for the remainder of the game. With 6:35 left in the first quarter, Burris drilled a three points on a pass from Baker to extend the lead to 13-7.

Early in the second quarter Amour'ee Morrison got a steal and threw it ahead to Lee who made the layup to extend the Dodge City lead to 22-11. Just before the half, Kyra Trice scored on a layup as time expired to push the Conq lead to 18, 43-25, heading into the locker room. 

Coming out of the locker room, the Warriors went almost five minutes before scoring, while the Conqs extended the lead to 48-26. To end the third quarter, the Conqs scored the final ten points of the quarter to extend their lead to 64-32 with just ten minutes to play.

With the game out of reach already, the Conqs took the court for the fourth quarter and never looked back, eventually pushing 41 on two free throws by Kyra Trice to give the Conqs a 88-47 win.

The women are now 1-0 on the season and will be in action again on Monday as they host Bethany College JV at 5:30 p.m.
