Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - After the women took down Sterling College in game one, the men followed suit, as they never trailed on Wednesday night, defeating Northwest Tech JV by a score of 92-51.
Sophomore Hunter Davis led all scorers on Wednesday, collecting 15 points on the day. Along with his 15 points, he also collected six rebounds while teammates Tajae Anderson, Bruce Hodges, Tamaje Blackwell and Justice Dixon all scored in double-figures.
The Conqs came out hustling and showing a lot of effort, jumping out to an early to an early 10-2 lead on a layup from Davis, assisted by Bruce Hodges. After the Mavericks cut the lead to 12-7, Dodge City went on a 9-0 run, capped off by another layup from Davis to extend the lead to 21-7 with 11 minutes left in the first quarter. Before the end of the quarter, the Conqs pushed their lead to 25 points.
The second quarter was much of the same, as Dayton McGroarty and Davis connected on three layups to push the lead to 36 with 10:41 until halftime. Late in the second quarter, a three points by Lazarus Williams and a jumper from Dreyco Lawrence gave the Conqs their largest lead of the game, at 48. The Conqs held strong for the remainder of the game, holding the Mavericks to 51 points, winning their first game of the year by a score of 92-51.
The Conqs are now 1-0 on the year and will be in action again on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., as they host Otero Junior College.
