Men's Basketball Jumps All Over, Takes Out Seward County

Box Score LIBERAL, Kan. – Looking to keep their four-game winning streak rolling, the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team did just that with a 105-92 victory over Seward County Community College at the Greenhouse in Liberal on Wednesday, January 11th.

Defense was optional throughout the night as the Conquistadors would hit two treys to respond to a couple of early jumpers by the Saints to take a 6-4 lead in the opening minutes. With Dodge City trailing 11-10 with 16:02 left in the first half, Kourtney Ware would score his eighth points of the game on a layup to put DC3 back up 12-11. Trey Grundy would then score the next four points for the Conqs as the game would go back and forth with each team jumping out to small leads. Dodge City would trail Seward County by a score of 26-23 at the media timeout with 7:46 remaining in the first period, but slowly work their way back to tie things at 32 each to force the Saints to take their second timeout of the half not even a minute later. The Conquistadors would take the lead for good with 4:13 remaining in the first half and get some breathing room on Nick Noskowiak's fourth trey of the half and outscore the Saints 6-0 in the final 90 seconds to take a 51-42 lead at the break.

Things would escalate rather quickly in the second half as Dodge City would come out and go on a 9-3 run to open the second half and force another Saint timeout just 1:38 into the half. It would not get any better for Seward County as the Conqs would build their lead to 28 at 80-52 just six minutes into the half and well on their way to victory. Dodge City would start to play the entirety of their roster of their roster over the final 13 minutes of the game to keep players fresh knowing that Hutchinson is coming to town this weekend. Seward County would make a late run to make things interesting, but could not get any closer than 13 as the Conquistadors would start to utilize the shot clock to the fullest extent down the stretch.

Dodge City would out-rebound the Saints 36-34 and hold a 27-13 lead in points off turnovers. The Conqs would score 56 of their 105 in the paint and get 51 points from bench players. The Conqs would shoot 60.0 percent from the floor in the game (42-70) and hit 10 three's in the game.

Four Dodge City players would end up in double figures with Josh Boutte leading the way with 18 to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Noskowiak had 17 points while Ware had 16 and Brandon Miller with 15 points. Seward County was led by Micah Littlejohn led all scorers with 23 points.

An official announcement regarding the Dodge City and Hutchinson men's basketball game will be made tomorrow morning at goconqs.com as Winter Storm Jupiter makes it's way towards southwest Kansas. The Blue Dragons were 80-63 winners over Independence at home on Wednesday night.
