Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Looking to get the week started off right, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team won a home match over the Sterling College JV team by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 26-24 to sweep the Warriors at the DC3 Gymnasium on Monday, September 19th.
DC3 is now 10-6 on the year and has won four straight matches.
In the first set, the Conquistadors took the lead for good at 8-7 and never looked back building a lead of 20-11 forcing a Sterling College JV timeout. DC3 would close out the set 25-16 to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set was similar to the first as a 5-0 DC3 run midway through the set would force a a Warrior timeout at 10-5 before the Conqs would go on a 15-7 run to end the set by a score of 25-12 and take a commanding two sets to zero lead. Dodge City would let their guard down in the third set, as a 13-9 lead would slowly disappear with Sterling JV taking a 15-14 lead forcing a DC3 timeout. The rest of the set would be back and forth between the two teams as DC3 would trail 24-23 and set point for Sterling JV before reeling off three straight points to close out the match with a 26-24 set win.
Briana Brown led the Conquistadors with 18 assists and 10 digs to record a double-double while
Sada Smith just missed out on a double-double of her own, finishing with 17 digs and nine kills. Teammates
Alex Bruey and
Raquel Valdez each had 11 kills to go along with one block apiece.
DC3 is on the road the rest of the week, starting Wednesday night at Seward County for a 6:30 p.m. match in Liberal, Kansas. The Saints are 12-5 overall on the season and 4-1 in the KJCCC, but have lost two of their last three matches.
