Box Score 2 LAMAR, Colo. - Facing the same team for the second game in a row as well as the host school, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Otero Junior College (15-25, 20-25, 15-25) and Lamar Community College (25-21, 27-29, 25-19, 21-25, 12-15) in two matches at the Little Caesar Invitational in Lamar, Colorado on Saturday, August 27th.
DC3 is now 1-3 on the young season, but has a lot of bright takeaways to gain from the weekend after utilizing many freshman throughout.
"A lot of good things happened this weekend, we just have to find our rhythm and get some consistency" said head coach
Kamri Nehls in a post-game interview. "It's obviously not how we wanted the weekend to go record wise, but we will regroup for our roadgame against Labette on Monday."
In the first match against Otero, freshman
Raquel Valdez led the Conquistadors in kills with 9 to go along with four solo blocks.
Sada Smith added seven kills of her own while
Briana Brown led the team in assists with 11.
Having a short time to regroup before playing Lamar,
Daisy Cheek led the team with 18 assists to go along with seven kills while Smith added 15 kills to finish with 22 kills total on the day as
Mariah Watkins had nine kills against the Lopes.
Using this weekend as a learning experience for the young team will be key for the Conqs, who will travel to Labette for a 5:30 p.m. first serve match in Parsons, Kansas.
