Box Score 2 SNYDER, Texas -- After being kept quiet in the first game, the Dodge City Community College bats came alive in game two as the Conquistadors split a doubleheader with Western Texas on Thursday, dropping the first game 3-1 and winning game two 10-2.
After struggling to find their stride in game one, the Conqs (5-1) took their first lead of the doubleheader in game two on a
Taryn Garza RBI single in the third inning to make it 2-1.
DC3 got rolling in the fourth inning as a
Taylor Menard triple scored
Marina Kelly before Menard scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1 Conqs.
DC3 turned it into a five-run inning thanks to a
Baylee Rial RBI single followed by a two-run single from
Kim Herron to make it 7-1.
The Westerners scored a run before a
Kaylie Schoendaller double followed by a
Heather Amen triple in the fifth made it 8-2. Amen scored on a
Candace Bollig groundout as the lead grew to 9-2.
A Bollig sacrifice fly in the seventh made the final score 10-2 in favor of the Conqs.
Hannah Feagler (1-0) picked up the win for DC3 in relief, going 3.1 scoreless innings while giving up three hits and striking out one.
Lindsey Lemmon got the start, going 3.2 innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Menard finished 3-for-4 for DC3 with a triple, RBI and two runs, Garza was 3-for-4, Amen finished 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI while Schoendaller and Rial also had two hits apiece with Rial adding a stolen base.
In the first game, the game was tied 1-1 heading to the sixth before Western Texas took advantage of a two-out error by the Conqs to score two runs and take a 3-1 lead it would hold onto.
DC3 had only three hits in the game with Schoendaller with the team's only extra-base hit (a double) as the Conqs had trouble figuring out Western Texas starter Lindsay Blattman, who finisehd with seven strikeouts and no walks. The lone run she allowed was in the third on an RBI groundout by Bollig.
Herron (3-1) took the tough loss in the circle for DC3, going all six innings and giving up three runs (none earned) on five hits with one strikeout and two walks.
The Conqs travel to participate in a tournament in El Paso starting Saturday.
