GAME NOTES: Conqs look to continue strong stretch, host Seward

DODGE CITY, Kan. -- While the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team is locked into the No. 4 seed for the Region VI Tournament, the Conquistadors know they want to be playing their best basketball heading into the tournament and look to build off Wednesday's win over Colby 3 p.m. Saturday at home against Seward County.

- Since Jan. 2 DC3 is 10-3, including the victory over the Trojans at home on Wednesday. In the 74-62 victory, the Conqs hit 11 3-pointers (second-most 3s in a game this season) and shot a season-best 57.9 percent from beyond the arc.
- Lorenzo Dillard paced DC3 by going a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range against Colby as he finished with 24 points. Dillard over his last six games is shooting 54.5 percent from 3-point range (18-for-33). In his previous two games, he's a scorching 9-for-10 from beyond the arc.
- DC3 has five players averaging more than 9.5 points per game in Dillard (16.9), Josh Boutte (15.8), James Newton (12.2), Jeremy Treaudo (10.0) and Jamie Rutherford (9.6).
- With Wednesday's win, DC3 secured its second-consecutive 20-win season and sixth in the last 11 seasons.

- The Conqs have secured their first plus-.500 season in KJCCC play since 2006-07 when the Conqs went 12-4 and won the West Division (there are no divisions anymore).

- Though Seward has dropped five of its last six games - three of those losses are by two points. The Saints are coming off a 91-77 loss at Garden City on Wednesday.
- Seward features the leading scorer in the conference in Niem Stevenson as the sophomore is averaging 24.2 points per game - good for fifth in the NJCAA.
- The Saints are 14th in the KJCCC in rebounding (35.7) and last in rebounding margin (-5.9). They are also 14th in the KJCCC in points per game allowed at 78.0. In just KJCCC games, the Saints are allowing 83.9 points per game.

MATCHUP HISTORY

- DC3 defeated Seward 82-74 Jan. 30 in Liberal in a contest the Conqs led wire-to-wire and by as much as 20 in the second half. DC3 got a huge performance from Josh Boutte as the freshman finished with 41 points, 23 rebounds and two blocks - helping the Conqs outrebound Seward 61-31. The 74 points tied a season low for the Saints.
- The Conqs are 8-16 against Seward since the 2004-05 season.
