Box Score PRATT, Kan. - Freshman guard
Kourtney Ware led all scorers with 24 points as the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team won an up and down paced conference road game at Pratt by a final score of 104-93.
DC3 is now 4-1 on the season and evens their Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference record to 1-1 while the Beavers fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Pratt would score the opening six points of the game before the Conquistadors would shake off some early woes to jump out to a 20-12 lead. The Beavers would close the gap back up at the media timeout to 24-18 as the Conqs would lead for the rest of the half and appear to be on their way to a double-digit halftime lead. That would not be the case as the Beavers closed the half on a 12-3 run to make the score 43-40 at halftime much to the disliking of the DC3 crowd that made the trip.
Pratt would regain the lead in the second half and lead by a score of 51-46 forcing a Dodge City timeout which would appear to be the spark that the Conquistadors needed. Aftert regaining the lead at 67-66 with just under 10 minutes to play in the game, DC3 would never relinquish the lead and start to pull away from the beavers thanks to Ware hitting three consecutive threes. Pratt would close to within three at 79-76, but the Conqs would jump right back out to a double-digit lead and ice the game away with free throws.
"In the first half we shot ourselves in the foot and had 12 turnovers, which really was their offense" said head coach
Kyle Campbell in a post-game interview with
Damon Post. "We should have been up 20 in the first half, and our guys have to realize that if we play the way that we can, then things will go a lot smoother throughout the entire game."
Both teams would shoot well over 50 percent from the field in the game as DC3 would fall just shy of the 60 percent mark by finishing 40 of 67 (59.7%) from the field. From beyond the arc would be nearly identical as the field goal percentage with the Conqs hitting 12 of 21 (57.1%) of their treys despite hitting only 12 of 22 (54.5%) of their free throws.
In addition to Ware's 24 points,
Josh Boutte had 23 points and was one of six Conquistadors in double figures.
Nick Noskowiak had 18 points, three rebounds, and three steals while
Trey Grundy III had 12 total points.
Dreon Lewis and
Trevon Evans each finished with 10 points. The Beavers were led by 17 points from starter Jaylon Wilson.
DC3 will look to move to 5-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference play when they play Coffeyville Community College on Saturday, November 19th at 3 p.m. The Red Ravens held on to beat rival Independence by a score of 80-79.
