Box Score PRATT, Kan. - Looking to move up in the standings and make a push towards the NJCAA Region VI Tournament next week, the Dodge City City Community College did just that by sweeping Pratt in three sets (25-17, 25-20, and 25-18) in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action on Monday, October 24th.
DC3 is now 21-14 and 6-9 in the KJCCC after sweeping the season series over the Beavers in convincing fashion.
"We hit well the first set, and played defense well in the second set" said head volleyball coach
Kamri Nehls in a postgame interview. "The third set we found a way to put both together and sweep Pratt in conference this year." We will be getting back at it tomorrow and put our focus towards Cloud County on Thursday."
Sophomore
Mariah Watkins led the team with 11 kills and added a solo block while
Sada Smith had 17 digs, seven kills, and one solo block.
Daisy Cheek led in assists with 22 while
Raquel Valdez and
Jaylen Pegues both had eight kills.
The regular season concludes on Thursday night for the Conquistadors, who will travel to Concordia, Kansas to take on Cloud County at 6:30 p.m. Earlier this year in Dodge City, the Thunderbirds came away with a back-and-forth five-set victory over DC3. A win will secure the No. 5 seed for Dodge City in next week's Region VI Tournament.
