Volleyball Makes it Eight Straight Wins With Road Sweep of Hutchinson

Dodge City volleyball avenged its lone conference loss of the season with a three-set road sweep of Hutchinson, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16.

The Conquistadors improved to 23-5 on the season and 12-1 in KJCCC action with the win. The 23 wins are the most in a season since 2010, while the 12 conference wins are the most in a season by the Conqs. Conqs' win streak stretched to eight, marking the longest win streak since the 2010 season, while the win is also the fourth straight against Hutchinson at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson and the sixth over the Blue Dragons in the last nine meetings.

The day started slowly for the Conqs as they fell behind 6-2 but pushed back to tie the first set at 10-10 after a Dora Csanyi kill. Conqs flipped the lead to their side at 15-14 on a Kayla Cantrill ace, but Hutchinson regained the lead at 19-18. A 5-2 run by the Conqs put them in front 23-21, and after a Hutchinson timeout, the Blue Dragons tied the first set at 23-23. The Conqs answered the call again, scoring the final two points to win the first set 25-23. The Conqs built an early 3-0 run to take control at 8-5 in the second set, and the lead grew to 17-9 as they outscored Hutchinson 12-4 from the 5-5 tie early in the set. Conqs saw Hutchinson make a run to tighten up the set at 19-17 but then finished the set 6-2 to win it 25-19. Blue Dragons tallied the first three points in the third set but the Conqs countered with a 4-0 run and then worked to a 13-8 lead before going on to take the set 25-16.

Csanyi recorded a career-high 19 kills on a .424 hitting percentage, while Delaney Childs added nine kills in the win. Chelsea Durbridge posted 37 assists, 11 digs, and three kills, while Rian Muntaner led the team with 13 digs. Kayla Cantrill added digs, and Antete Celnova posted eight kills and seven digs.

Conqs are set for a week of home cooking, with the next two games at home starting Wednesday, October 21st, against Seward County at 6:30 pm, then Saturday, October 24th, against Cloud County at 6:30 pm.
