Box Score INDEPENDENCE, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College men's basketball team turned a one-point, halftime lead into a 23-point advantage in the second half on its way to an 82-68 victory on the road over Independence on Saturday.
The Conquistadors (12-5, 3-3) outscored Independence (11-5, 2-5) 53-40 in the second half thanks to shooting a scorching 73.1 percent (19-for-26) over the final 20 minutes. That includes going 3-for-4 from 3-point range after going 1-for-10 in the first half.
The Conqs had five players finish in double figures, led by
Josh Boutte's 21 points on 8-for-9 shooting to go along with four rebounds and two blocks.
James Newton had 18 points, four rebounds and two steals,
Jamie Rutherford and
Jamil Hood each had 12 points and
Jonathan Joseph had 11 points, seven rebounds and a block.
It's the first win for DC3 over Independence since the 2006-07 season, though the teams had played only four times since that Conq victory (Nov. 2013, March 2013, Dec. 2008, Nov. 2008).
The Conqs travel to take on No. 1 Hutchinson on Wednesday. The Blue Dragons have dropped their last two games, including a 78-77 loss at Butler on Saturday - a Butler team DC3 beat 74-66 on Wednesday.
