Dillard basket with 5.9 seconds left lifts DC3 past Colby, 82-81

Box Score COLBY, Kan. - A Lorenzo Dillard basket with 5.9 seconds left helped the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team overcome a double-digit, second-half deficit to defeat Colby on the road 82-81 on Wednesday.

The Conquistadors (15-6, 6-4) trailed 64-54 with 12 minutes remaining and were down by seven with four minutes left before charging back to take an 80-79 lead with 30 seconds remaining.

The Trojans (13-9, 6-6) scored to take a brief lead before Dillard gave DC3 the victory.

The Conqs have won eight games in a row over Colby and are 20-4 against the Trojans since the 2004-05 season.

Dillard led all scorers with 24 points for DC3, James Newton had 23 points and nine rebounds and Josh Boutte had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Layton Leydig led four Colby players in double figures with 19 points.

The Conqs travel to take on Seward 8 p.m. Saturday.
